ENUGU—A 52-year-old father of five, Chibuke Nwosu, has blamed his involvement in armoured cable and transformer vandalism on the prevailing economic hardship in the country, which has made it difficult for him to feed his family.
Nwosu was arrested by operatives of the Emene Police Division, Enugu Command, while he was attempting to sell the loot at Kenyatta Market.
Vanguard learned that Nwosu’s accomplices, Paul Ike and Chukwudi Okonkwo, who allegedly buy stolen items from him, were at large.
Similarly, a 31-year-old mother of two, identified as Chinyere Ezema from Ogbozalla, Opi, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, was yesterday, arrested by operatives of the Central Police Station over her involvement in child trafficking.
Chinyere was also said to have swindled unsuspecting members of the public desirous of having babies of huge sums running into millions of Naira.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the arrests, adding that Nwosu admitted the act, while Chinyere has been on the police wanted list.
Amaraizu said: “Manhunt intensified on Chinyere as a result of several complaints of alleged swindling and duping of innocent members of the public under the pretext that she has a link with certain and perhaps non-existence mother at the Mother of Christ Hospital, Enugu, to give out babies, whose parents were discovered to have died.”=================================== ***CONNECT WITH US***
