Owerri—Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has announced that the long awaited Local Government election in the state will now hold January, 2017.
He stated this through a press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Hon. Vitalis Ajumbe.
The release which the commissioner said contained the resolutions they had at the State Executive Council, did not state who presided over the executive session.
According to the release, the State Independent Electoral Commission is now expected to begin early preparations towards conducting free and fair election in the state while interested aspirants who had severally been disappointed as a result of the inability of the government to hold the Local Government election will start strategizing ahead of time.
Another controversial issue that featured prominently was the planned relocation of some selected markets in metropolitan city, on September 30, 2016 among which are, Ekeukwu market, Ama Awusa.
The release reads, “During the Imo State Executive Council meeting held on Friday 2nd September 2016 at the Ndubuisi Kanu Executive Council Chambers, Government House Owerri, the Executive Council made the following approvals among others;
“Imo State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct the Local Government Council Election by January, 2017, The relocation of the Eke-ukwu Owerri Market, Ama Awusa, Yam sellers all at Douglas Road and all the street traders along Douglas Road Owerri by September 30, 2016. By this, the affected traders have been given till September 30, 2016 to relocate.
“To employ 5 graduates per ward (from the 305 Inec wards) to beefup the civil service of Imo State. The graduates MUST be computer literate.”
“To pay the pensioners in the State for the Month of August 2016, while Government continues its negotiations with the Pension Union on how to clear the rest of the pension arears.”=================================== ***CONNECT WITH US***
