Soldiers from the 13 Brigade in Calabar yesterday evacuated debris inside drainages within Akim Qua town, its host community as part of activities marking the 2016 Nigerian Army day.
The exercise, which included a free medical awareness campaign to some markets, according to the brigade’s commander, Brig. Gen. Abdulmalik Biu, it was in fulfillment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai’s vision to promote an excellent civil/military relationship.
Represented by the brigade’s Chief of Staff, Col. S.J.A Ilori, the Brigade Commander said the exercise was also intended to create a conducive environment for security operations within the command’s area of jurisdiction.
“This is part of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai’s vision on excellent civil military relations. The sanitation and medical outreach exercise are intended to enhance confidence building with members of the public and to achieve a better working environment for security operations. The exercise also aims at strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the public and the Nigerian army”, he said.
A resident in the community, Mr. Edim Edim, who expressed surprise over the development, thank the new commander in charge of the brigade; Brig. Gen. Biu, for the gesture adding that the exercise will go a long way in boosting army’s relationship with the civil populace.
